The Down of the Harpsichord
In the Parisian salons, where the greatest lutenists
of France were to be found, the early harpsichordists,
such as Chambonnières, Louis Couperin, D'Anglebert,
Lebègue, were also present.
With tightened strings ascending scales are prepared,
temperaments are tried out. A tendency to fly begins,
even if, in this first ascent of the harpsichord,
the lute is never out of sight.
