Musicians - Jorge Alberto Guerrero
Born in Cali, Colombia, Jorge Alberto Guerrero started his musical
studies in the cello class of R.Morgan in Bogotà. He studied architecture
at the Univesidad de los Andes, and has actively worked in the fields
of rock and experimental music. After settling in Italy he continued
his cello studies at the Civica Scuola di Musica in Milan, graduating
in 1991 at the Conservatory of Brescia and devoting himself to the
baroque cello under the guidance of R.Gini, H.Suzuki and A.Bylsma.
In 1992 he founded, together with Cinzia Barbagelata, the Ensemble
Agláia, devoted to the baroque and preclassical string repertoire
on original instruments.
Jorge Alberto Guerrero plays in several baroque orchestras and ensembles, such as La Cappella della Pietà dei Turchini (dir. A.Florio), Il Complesso Barocco (dir. A.Curtis), L'Arte dell'Arco (F. Guglielmo), Janas ensemble (P. Erdas). In recent years he has appeared in the most prestigious international venues and has recorded for several European broadcasting companies and for the Virgin Classics, Opus 111 and Stradivarius labels.
In 2003 Guerrero founded together with Lorenzo Cavasanti, Dorothee Oberlinger and Paola Erdas the Quadro Janas. In his personal musical journey Jorge Alberto Guerrero has made a deep study of throughbass, in which technique and sound are at the service of the extraordinarily lively and stimulating role of the cello in 17th and 18th century chamber music.
Jorge plays a cello by Benoît Fleury, Paris, 1758.
